Every rental operator knows the moment: a scuff, a crack, a dent that got missed during a walkaround and turned into a dispute weeks later. It’s a costly problem industrywide. According to a 2025 CarInsuRent report, 58% of rental damage claims aren’t even caused by the renter, which means getting the call right and being able to prove it matters as much as catching the damage in the first place. Record360, the mobile inspection software provider, is out to close that gap with the launch of 360AI, a suite of artificial intelligence tools built directly into the Record360 app.
Led by AI Damage Detection, 360AI is designed to help field teams catch hard-to-see damage in real time, giving operators more consistent, dispute-ready documentation and protecting their bottom lines in the process.
A Second Set of Eyes, Not a Replacement
Record360 built 360AI around a simple idea: The technology should support the people doing the inspecting, not replace them. The suite follows what the company calls a strict “human-in-the-loop” philosophy. The AI highlights potential damage and flags items for review, but the final call, and the conversation with the customer, stays with the operator. The AI catches; the person decides.
That distinction matters for a technology that’s meant to hold up in a dispute. An inspection process only works if the people using it trust it, and Record360’s approach keeps a person’s judgment at the center of every decision the software helps make. It also means 360AI won’t automatically compare a unit’s before-and-after photos and declare what changed on its own. Deciding which differences actually matter still takes a person, so every AI finding gets confirmed by a manager before it ever becomes a charge.
What’s Inside the 360AI Suite
The launch brings together five purpose-built tools, each aimed at a different point in the inspection process:
- Damage Detection: Specialized models for glass, tire, and body detection use visual heatmaps to pinpoint chips, punctures, and panel dents as photos are captured. Glass detection is trained continuously on internal testing and real customer inspections. It already catches chips and cracks, even in shadow, glare, or on a dirty vehicle.
- Smart Review Dashboard: A centralized office queue, accessed on desktop within the Record360 application, where managers can review the source image and the AI-highlighted area side by side to confirm findings and make informed decisions.
- Voice Inspect: Lets inspectors record observations hands-free, automatically populating spoken notes straight into official inspection fields and cleaning up punctuation, language, and formatting along the way.
- Smart Scan: Automatically reads plates, VINs, and barcodes to instantly pre-populate vehicle records without manual entry.
- Blur Detection: Instantly flags unclear photos as they’re taken, maintaining documentation integrity and preventing callbacks.
Together, the tools split the work between two surfaces: Inspectors catch and capture in the field, while managers review and decide back at the office, backed by the same photos and heatmaps that flagged the damage in the first place.
The suite is also designed for how inspections actually happen. It requires no fixed infrastructure, running directly on the mobile devices teams already carry to branches, yards, job sites, and customer locations, a contrast to fixed drive-through scanning systems that require dedicated lanes. Record360 isn’t charging per scan or metering usage, either; unlimited AI usage is included within the applicable subscription plans.
Tested at Scale Before Launch
360AI isn’t a first draft. During its beta phase, the models processed nearly 3 million photos and surfaced more than 70,000 confirmed cases of real damage. That real-world volume gave Record360 a large enough sample to refine the models across a wide range of assets, from cars and commercial trucks to heavy equipment and machinery, so operators get a more consistent way to identify damage and reduce unallocated damage costs.
Getting 360AI on Your Team
360AI’s features are packaged across Record360’s existing subscription tiers, so operators can match the AI capabilities to how their teams work:
- Basic Plan: Includes core inspections and Smart Scan capabilities.
- Standard Plan: Adds mobile Damage Detection and Blur Detection.
- Professional Plan: Unlocks the complete suite, including the Smart Review Dashboard, Voice Inspect, and exclusive early access to new AI releases and improvements.
Taken together, the result is a faster, more consistent inspection process that reduces missed damage, strengthens documentation, and lowers costs, all while keeping your team, not the algorithm, in control of the final call and the customer relationship. As more of the industry moves toward AI-assisted inspections, 360AI is Record360’s answer to a straightforward question: How do you get the benefit of AI without handing it the final word?
